7 Tips to Keeping your Coloured Hair in Top Shape

Your colour-treated hair needs proper care and maintenance for it to stay vibrant and attractive. Here are some tips to maintaining coloured hair. No rocket science, all you need is just a little care and creativity to protect your hair colour and enjoy long-lasting hair colour.
#1. Go For Quality Hair Dye:
It all begins with the brand of hair dye you are using to colour your hair. Go for a tested and trusted brand like Sta-Sof-Fro hair dyes, for fade-resistant, long-lasting hair colours. Some hair colours, such as red dye tend to wash out and fade faster. Your choice brand of hair dye should penetrate the hair deeply without stressing the cuticles, and have a high definition.
#2. Condition Your Coloured Hair:
One of the ways of making hair colour last longer is by using quality conditioners on the hair. This, of course, is a follow-up to buying a great quality boxed hair colour. Use a professional hair dye like Sta-Sof-Fro hair colours, which comes with a high-grade conditioner to condition your hair and keep the colour vibrant and shiny for a long time.
#3. Oil Your Coloured Hair:
Applying natural hair oils like rosemary, coconut, black castor oil etc. will help to lock in moisture to your hair. Proper hydration is essential to the health and overall look of your coloured hair.
#4. Wash Your Hair Less Often:
Wash your hair less often in order to preserve its natural hair oils. Frequently shampooing your hair will strip away the colour and cause it to fade quickly . Shampoo your colour-treated hair once a week or every two weeks. Use a colour-protecting, sulphate-free shampoo to ensure the safety of your hair colour, and don't use hot water to wash your coloured hair. Better still, get a good moisturising conditioner as it won't fade your hair colour as much as a regular shampoo would do.
#5. Protect Your Hair From Heat:
It's best you keep heat away from dyed hair. Allow your hair to dry naturally whenever you wash it but if you have to use a blow-dryer use the cool blast setting or set it to the lowest heat level. Also, if your hair must undergo heat styling processes with tools like blow dryers and curling/straightening irons, make sure to apply a heat-protectant to your colour-treated hair first.
#6. Avoid Exposure To Sun And Chlorine:
UV rays of the sun aren't friends with colour-treated hair as they cause hair colours to fade and become dull. Avoid undue exposure to sun and cover up your coloured hair when spending a long time under the sun. It's also a good idea to protect your coloured hair with UV-protecting products when out in the sun.
Dyed hair should also be protected from chlorine, and this means covering your hair when in the swimming pool as the water contains chlorine which could strip your colour off.
#7. Eat Healthy:
You are what you eat and, generally, the health of your hair is reflective of what goes into your mouth. Fruits, vegetables, and a good water intake will go a long way in keeping your hair healthy, shiny and luxuriant.
